Moscow theatre: 1001 nights in Persia (Тысяча и одна ночь Шахразады)

maart 13th, 2009

Московский драматический театр под руководством Армена ДжигарханянаI do not know the exact translation of Шахразады, but I think Persia comes close enough….

On March 7 2009 we visited this play “Тысяча и одна ночь Шахразады” in the Moskovskij dramaticheskij teatr pod rukovodstvom Armena Dzhigarxanyana. Yes, a long name… But don”t let that hold you back. And if you don”t know the language, well, just enjoy the drama and the singing.

For me it was a pleasant experience. An interesting story about Ali Baba, with funny actors. The actor who is Ali Babba (Семен Штейнберг) has a hilarious look and attitude. His girlfriend (Наталия Колодяжная) is beautiful and sings very good. And many other actors were very pleasant to view too. Good dancing, good humour, nice scenery, clothes etc. I had a smile on my face all of the time. From what I could see my wife enjoyed it very much as well.

Interestingly for theatre in Moscow… I heard no cellphones going off. Maybe the public in this small theatre is of another level or something. I don”t know, they all looked well dressed. I even spotted the boss of GUM.

Yes, the theatre is relatively small. But that is pleasant. You are close to the stage. We were sitting in the middle of row 8, which is perfect. Don”t expect an overwhelming bar or luxurious entré. But it is all good.

Next plays will be on 20 and 28 march, 3, 12 and 18 april 2009. Tickets between 300 and 1200 r.

The theatre is located at Lomonosovskij prospekt, dom 17. Which is very close to the Metro station Universitet (Университе́т) on the red line.

From Sheremetyevo to Moscow city and back

maart 12th, 2009

After several visits to Moscow I think that I have done all routes.
- Taxi’’s
- Driven by friends
- minibus
- Aeroexpress train

By far the best solution so far has been the Aeroexpress train. The entry to the trainstation at Sheremetyevo is at the right side when you exit the arrivals. Some signs will help you on your way. Just before the platform is the ticket sales office. The one-way ride costs 250 rubles.
When you are lucky a train will soon leave, generally once an hour. In 25 minutes it takes you to the Savelovskaya trainstation (and Metro station).
At all times keep your ticket. They will stamp it in the train and you need it to exit the trainstation. From the exit you walk straight to the Metro station. From there it is only one station to the ringline. To get to the Red Square it is only 4 stations with a changeover at Tsjechovskaya to Tverskaya. For the Red Square you exit at Teatralnaya. To get back it basically works the same way. 10 rides cost 200 rubles at this moment.

Being driven by friends is the most easy for you. But traffic can be hell and for them it can take more than half a day to help you out. If I can I try to avoid putting that burden on them. While Russian friends and/or will do anything to help you, just know when to say no.

The minibus is also an easy option. But it can be busy and traffic can be hell. But it is cheap. 60 rubles to Rechnoj Vokzal (Речной вокзал). And I understand that some also go to Planernaya. Especially on the way to Sheremetyevo I prefer the minibus from Rechnoj Vokzal. Don””t expect your maxisize Samsonite to fit in the car though. Or you will possible pay double the price. But 120 rubles still isn”t bad.

Taxi’’s….
As soon as you walk out of the customs area the drivers will be all over you. Do not take a ride directly. And bargain like you are on the market in Egypt. It is expensive and you will be in the same traffic as the minibus. Expect prices between 500 to 1500 rubles. And when you are really stupid they will get at least 100 dollars (more than 3000 rubles) out of you. In the evening traffic the ride might take hours.
But when you have a lot of luggage this might be the best option. Just bargain, bargain, bargain and agree the price for the full ride before you leave!
The ride back might be cheaper if you have a friend who can arrange a taxi. If you do it yourself you will probably again pay double the price.

Easy-Blog

When the old host stopped and I had to move to a new one, I wanted it el-cheapo. And so it is, el-cheapo. Good, but not many options. This stuff you see here is a dumbed down wordpress thing. In the old one I could change everything. But with this one I can choose only a few ugly themes and change almost nothing. So be it. :(

New host

Door een verhuizing naar een nieuwe host is het hier een beetje leeg op dit moment.

Because of moving to a new host it is a little bit empty here at this moment.

Из-за перемещения к новому хозяину это немного пусто здесь в этот момент.
